Editorial policy

This policy explains who is responsible for LearnSwim.sg content, how guidance is reviewed, which sources we prefer, and how readers can request a correction.

Who creates and reviews our guides

LearnSwim.sg is part of the Swim2u Swim School network. Guides are written by Alvin, an SSI Swimming Instructor Trainer with more than 10 years of experience teaching swimming, using Swim2u's day-to-day knowledge of how beginner lessons are run.

A page's “last reviewed” date records the most recent substantive check of its guidance or claims. We do not change that date for spelling, formatting or navigation-only edits.

What experience informs the content

The guides address recurring questions from swimming beginners and families in Singapore. They explain skill order, lesson preparation, water confidence, basic technique and practical local considerations. They are general educational material, not an assessment of an individual learner.

How we use sources

For information that can change or carries safety implications, we prefer current primary sources such as Singapore government agencies, official facility operators, programme owners and recognised public-health or water-safety bodies. Relevant pages link to those sources close to the claim or in a clearly labelled source section.

Coaching explanations that describe technique or practice progressions are identified as general guidance. We avoid presenting one progression, lesson count, pace or teaching method as universal.

Review standards

  • Claims must be supportable and specific enough for a reader to check.
  • Time-sensitive information is dated and linked to a current official source where practical.
  • Safety language avoids implying that a webpage, flotation aid or unsupervised drill makes someone water-safe.
  • Health, mobility, disability, fear and prior experience are treated as individual factors rather than assumptions.
  • We do not publish invented credentials, testimonials, rankings, success rates or guaranteed outcomes.
  • Material changes receive a new review date; minor presentation changes do not.

Corrections and updates

If something appears wrong, outdated or unclear, send us the page URL and the specific statement. We check proposed corrections against the page, relevant primary sources and the coaching context before updating it. A substantive correction receives a new review date.

Commercial transparency

All LearnSwim.sg guides are free to read. Swim2u Swim School offers paid lessons separately. A guide may explain when feedback from a suitable instructor could help, but it should not disguise a sales claim as independent evidence. Readers should compare providers, current instructor suitability, venue rules, total fees and terms before booking.

Limits of online guidance

A guide cannot supervise a swimmer.

Online content cannot assess water conditions, health, fatigue, technique or distress in real time. Beginners should practise in suitable shallow water with setting-appropriate supervision and follow current venue and lifeguard instructions. Anyone with a relevant health concern should seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before starting or changing physical activity.
