Rain, Lightning, Haze and Missed Swimming Lessons in Singapore
What happens to your lesson when it rains, the pool is cleared, haze affects outdoor activity, or you cannot attend? Here are the Swim2u terms, official safety checks and questions to ask any provider.
Short answer
The coach and the pool authority can cancel or postpone a lesson in bad weather. Under Swim2u's terms, a lesson that has started and is stopped by rain is not made up, and drizzle alone does not cancel a lesson. Terms differ between providers, so ask for yours in writing.
What Swim2u's terms say about weather
These points appear in Swim2u's booking-terms summary, last updated 30 September 2026. That summary says Swim2u's full Terms and Conditions govern if the two differ, so read the full terms before booking.
- The swimming coach and the pool authority may cancel or postpone a lesson for bad weather and safety reasons.
- Once a lesson has started and has to be stopped because of rain, there is no make-up lesson.
- Lessons can go ahead in drizzle. Learners should attend unless they have been told the lesson is cancelled.
- Parents and learners are advised to contact the coach if the weather looks bad.
- The terms also say a swimming lesson "will be counted in the event of bad weather conditions". Ask Swim2u how this applies to your booking before you pay.
Swim2u's public pages are not identical on advance weather postponements. Its FAQ, last reviewed 4 October 2026, says a learner may ask to postpone about one hour before the coach travels. The full terms, which say they govern the booking, tell learners to attend unless cancellation has been communicated and say a started lesson stopped by rain has no make-up. The FAQ also says arrangements may change. Because the wording differs, do not assume an advance request will be accepted: ask Swim2u which written rule applies to your lesson before paying. Read the current FAQ and full terms.

| Completion window | Complete within 4 weeks, or outstanding lessons are forfeited | Complete within 4 weeks, or outstanding lessons are forfeited |
| Coach refused entry at a condo | The lesson counts as conducted. The client must make sure the coach has access | |

What to do on a wet day
- Check for a message from the coach or the venue before leaving home.
- If you are unsure, message the coach early rather than guessing.
- At a public complex, follow the lifeguards. If they clear the pool, the coach cannot continue.
- Ask the coach what happens to the lesson count before the day, not after.
Lightning safety takes priority
Meteorological Service Singapore advises people not to remain in or near water bodies, including swimming pools, during lightning and to wait at least 30 minutes after thunder is last heard before resuming outdoor activities. ActiveSG rules require users to leave pools and open areas when staff instruct them to do so during lightning, thunder or other hazardous conditions. Follow the facility’s direction; a lesson policy cannot override a safety closure.

What about haze or poor air quality?
Sport Singapore's current Haze Management Plan directs facility users to the NEA health advisory when planning sport during haze episodes. Use the 24-hour PSI forecast to plan ahead, then check the relevant region's 1-hour PM2.5 reading, venue instructions and provider update nearer the lesson. These readings serve different timeframes and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Suitability also depends on the swimmer's age, health and the duration and intensity of activity. Children, older adults, pregnant participants and people with chronic heart or lung conditions may need stricter precautions. A pool being open does not by itself mean an outdoor lesson is suitable for every swimmer, and LearnSwim has not verified a separate Swim2u haze-cancellation threshold. Ask what happens to the lesson and fee before travelling.
Questions to ask any provider
- Who decides to cancel, and how will I be told?
- Is a lesson stopped by rain counted, replaced or credited?
- Which haze readings and venue instructions are checked before an outdoor lesson?
- Is there a deadline for make-up lessons?
- Do the rules change for condo pools and public pools?
For the cost side, see the lesson cost guide, which lists Swim2u's current rates.
Common questions
Will my swimming lesson be cancelled if it rains?
Not always. Swim2u's terms say lessons can run in drizzle. If lifeguards or facility staff clear the pool for lightning or other hazardous conditions, leave immediately and wait for their instruction before returning.
Do I get a make-up lesson if rain stops the lesson?
Under Swim2u's terms, if a lesson has started and is stopped by rain, there is no make-up lesson. Check the current terms before booking.
What if I miss a group lesson?
Swim2u's terms say there is no refund, compensation or make-up for absence, late arrival or cancellation in group lessons.
How should I decide whether to swim during haze?
Use the current NEA health advisory and 24-hour PSI forecast to plan ahead, then check the relevant region's 1-hour PM2.5 reading, venue instructions and provider update nearer the lesson. Age, health and activity intensity matter, so a pool being open does not by itself mean the session suits every swimmer.
